You are able to conjure up this unconventional dish in the comfort of your home. Barley groats can be a great side dish to roasted pork. It enhances the delicate flavor of the meat.

  • 2.2 pound pork shoulder
  • 0.4 pound plums
  • 250 ml apple juice
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 allspice berries
  • 1 tablespoon oil/lard
  • salt and pepper


  • Trim the fat from the surface of the pork shoulder. Wash the pork shoulder and cut it into cubes. Salt and add pepper. Then fry the meat in oil or lard until golden brown.
  • The meat should be put into a casserole dish. Add garlic cloves, apple juice and soy sauce. Mix everything and pour the mixture on the meat. Add allspice berries and bay leaves.
  • Place the casserole dish in the oven preheated to 200 degrees and bake for about 50 minutes.
  • Plums should be washed and dried. Then cut them into halves and pit them. Add plums into the dish with meat. Put the dish uncovered in the oven for about 20 minutes until the meat is soft. Our roasted pork is ready.
