Cevapcici is a dish from the Balkan cuisine, based on ground and grilled meat formed into long chops. Cevapcici can most often be found in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where it is present in both street food booths and in the best restaurants. Meat is usually served with ajvar pepper sauce, rice or bread and chopped onions.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g minced meat (pork and beef)
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • ½ red bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon coriander
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika powder
  • a pinch of hot paprika powder
  • pepper
  • salt

Preparation:

  • Red onion, bell pepper and garlic should be cut into small cubes.
  • Put minced meat, chopped vegetables and finely chopped herbs into a bowl. Pour soy sauce and olive oil in. Mix everything thoroughly. Add sweet and hot paprika powder, season with pepper and salt.
  • Put the meat in the fridge for an hour. Form the cool meat into rolls similar to shashliks and then stick them on wooden skewers.
  • Cevapcici should be grilled on each side for several minutes until the meat is browned. They can also be baked in a 180 degree oven, where they should be baked for about 30 minutes. Serve Cevapcici with ajvar sauce and chopped white onion.
