Margherita is one of the easiest kinds of pizza. The most intriguing thing is about its name. In 1889, cook Raffaelo Esposito dedicated 3 kinds of pizza to queen Margherita Maria Teresa Giovanna di Savoia. She liked the third one: with mozzarella. Thanks to her name till present time this pizza is called Margherita.

    Ingredients for pizza Margherita:

  • 8 fl oz (225ml) warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fine sugar
  • ¼ oz (7g) instant yeast
  • 13 oz (375g) plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 fl oz (100 ml) tomato paste
  • fresh basil/1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 3,5 oz (100g) cherry tomatoes
  • 4 oz (125g) ball mozzarella
  • 3,5 oz (100g) parmesan/grated parmesan

    Preparation of pizza Margherita

  • Combine sugar, flour, yeast and salt in a large bowl. Mix this, add oil and warm water and mix again for few minutes. Cover with towel and set aside for 1hour if you want dough to rise, but it’s not essential for a thin crust.
  • Chop fresh basil thinly and mix with tomato paste and crushed garlic. Season to taste and set aside.
  • Spread out dough on a large pizza pan. Slice the mozzarella, halve tomatoes and grate parmesan if you didn’t buy grated.
  • Spread prepared sauce over the pizza dough. Put some tomato slices on it and scatter with cheese. Bake at 190 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
